Handicap Rules

Posting your scores

To the members of the IAGC:

You have a responsibility to post all of your scores into the GHIN system. There is no differentiation between golf played with the club and golf played outside the club. This will ensure that all member handicap indices and their respective course handicaps are reflected correctly and will give an idea as to each member's playing potential.

You can post your scores:

  • using the computer that is available at most clubs/courseS

  • Using the GHIN website www.GHIN.com

  • You can give the card to me & I'll put it in the system (this is the least desired method).

I would strongly suggest all members abide by this mandate. Despite appearances to the contrary, We do look closely at members posting activity and the membership does take note and makes comments.

I would suggest you get acquainted with handicapping and the statistics associated with handicapping by visiting either the handicapping section of the USGA website.

www.usga.org or www.popeofslope.com

If you have questions, ask.

Handicapping System

To ensure the ongoing competition is fair and the integrity of the game realized, the Board of the IAGC is reminding all members of the following handicapping protocol.  This is to be used in conjunction with the other handicapping material posted on the website

Post Every Score!

Post correctly with ESC.  This is a requirement for all members, all the time, everywhere you play!  There should be an ESC chart located near the posting computer for reference.  The only exception is for regular IAGC tournaments.  Instead of you posting your tournament scores, the handicap committee will post for all tournament players.

Equitable Stroke Control  (ESC)

When posting scores, use ESC based on the table below.  ESC sets the maximum number that a player can post (not take) on any hole, depending on the player's course handicap (not his index). Please memorize this!
